Emsley A Laney High School

Our Treasure is Knowledge

Graduation Date Survey

Dear parents of our Seniors,

The high school principals have been meeting with district leadership to workout details for this year’s graduation ceremony. Here is what has been set in stone so far:

  • High schools will hold graduation ceremonies in their football stadiums

  • Each senior will be allowed 4 guests, no tickets will be issued, and no spots can be switched out to control social distancing mandates

  • Face masks will be required

  • Laney will need 2-3 ceremonies to accommodate families

We have been given some wiggle room for dates and times to hold our ceremonies. Over the past few weeks we have received inquiries from many of you wanting to know if graduation will be during the week so travel plans can be made, and some wanting it to be on Saturday as scheduled for family coming in town. We want to be as accommodating as possible given this is a true milestone for your child and the family. The options will be ceremonies on Wednesday evening, Thursday evening, and Saturday morning. You can also choose “any option” if you do not have a preference.

Please keep in mind that an outdoor ceremony can be complicated by weather.  Therefore, the Wednesday and Thursday ceremony would have a make-up date of Friday evening, and Saturday could very well be split into multiple smaller ceremonies in the gym pending potential poor weather.  These are factors that will be discussed as soon as we nail down the dates and times, and are also subject to change even on the day of an event if by chance we would have a chain of days with poor weather.

The information from this survey will be used to determine the dates and times that we will submit to district leadership.  Please complete this form by the end of the weekend.  Once we have the dates and times, we will let families decide which ceremony they would like to attend by a google sign up form.  Each option will have restricted numbers allowed for signing up so we can maintain social distancing..  So please make your voice heard in this survey so we can plan accordingly.  We will do our very best to accommodate everyone, but we will go with the majority.
